Belgian frites fry in the heat
WILSELE, Belgium — Europe's summer drought is set to deep fry Belgian frites.
Across the Continent, farmers have been battling the effects of unusually high temperatures and scarce rain, putting pressure on national as well as EU authorities to help.
For Belgium, the home of the EU institutions, the extreme weather in July and August constitutes the country's longest heat wave since 1911, according to MétéoBelgique.
